Hi,

Yet another major newbie at these things, but i think i have much the same issue as PyromanicElf, neo fightr, tdcook4 and 4fun.

Using Ad-aware SE, I repeatedly come up with three VX2 processes and one VX2 regvalue, two tracking cookies (type IECache entry) and three redirected host file entrys.

When I try to remove the infections the start menu bar and all desktop icons disappear for a moment, a message appears saying that C:\windows\system32\k4nole531h.dll cannot be removed and the My Documents folder opens itself up.

Also, everytime I start my PC it will open up with a message
"An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows\system32\XXX.dll", UMonitor

XXX being an ever changing file name within the system32 folder.

I am getting various pop-ups appearing from time to time and finally at random intervals the start menu graphics will change (similar to when running in safe mode) and the whole system will then shutdown and reboot.

I am totally confused about the whole situation and any help would be wonderful as I have got to the stage where I am considering re-building the whole system. :tazz:

My hijackthis log is detailed below and any help would be greatly appreciated. ;)

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks for the reply admin.

Having spent the best part of a week before posting on this site trying to find a fix for the problem I have eventually re-formatted my hard drive and re-booted Windows so my PC is back up and running fine now. I've also taken the good advice on this site into how to protect myself in the future so fingers crossed I won't end up down the same route again.

Thanks again for the reply.

Sorry about that! :tazz: I was trying to clean up some unanswered logs. Hopefully, you didn't lose anything important, and were able to protect your system to enjoy that "freshly formated" feel. ;)
