start > run, type
eventvwr.msc

Look under systems and applications for items with red Xs that happened at the SAME time as your problem...list them here.

probably something in the way you coppied the game (which by default mean's i can't help you...the only reason i could help you up till now is because you installed with your license...not his...the reason i can't help you is because we do not support pirating...which technically using his cd is pirating)....the best i can give you is to see if it works with the original disk

but i thought you were allowed to makeimages of the disk so that you don't need insert the disk every single time. when i did this with cc generals the same message came up saying please insert disk even when i put the disk in. by which time i was getting worried so i decided to reinstall it but it still isn't working, what is going on here !!!!!!!!!!!!

You can make backups as long as you have a valid liscence for the game its ok. Although to get it to work you may have to use methods that a pirate would use to get it to work which i dont think it would be appropriate for us to say given this sites strict ToS on the matter.

i've got a couple questions,
you lost your halo disk, so you installed the game with your friends disk?
did you use his cd key with the disk?
