I'm working on my step-dad's laptop for him and my mother. Their daughter I don't know what she does online but every time I virus scan I find trojans. Left right and center. I've removed a few this time around. ANyway, can someone let me know what I"m missing in my hijack this.

The computer is running rather slow. SHould i just crap the whole thing and reinstall everything since they've had over 40 trojans in hte last few months?

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1

Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B56A7D7D-6927-48C8-A975-17DF180C71AC} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus2] "C:\Documents and Settings\Pam\My Documents\MsgPlus.exe"

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

Step #4

You have a LOP infection, which is most often transmitted by the program Messenger Plus! 3. Do you (or did you at any point) have Messenger Plus installed? If you still do have it installed, please uninstall it completely from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, restart your computer, and then post a new HijackThis log.

If you did have it installed, but do not anymore, please do the following:

1) Reinstall Messenger Plus! 3 from scratch from here:
http://www.msgplus.net/

2) Make sure during installation to ACCEPT the optional sponsor software.

3) Then please uninstall Messenger Plus completely and restart your computer

Step #5

Run Panda's online virus scan and perform a full system scan: Panda ActiveScan

Save the Panda ActiveScan log. Start HijackThis and perform a new scan.

Use the Add Reply button to post your new logs back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Thanks for that. I'm gonna have to ask you to close the topic since I the computer owners took the computer away. I'll have to continue the scans and such when I can get it back or they get the internet again.

Thanks again
