Whenever I boot my PC using Windows ME I get a series of 9 error messages that read ""%1: %2" on one line and right below it appears "Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2". This message appears 9 times and then a message of "Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting." "Windows may not start or run properly". "If Windows fails to start, run SETUP again". "Press any key to continue".

When I press any key the system continues on and boots up normally. This problem just appeared within the last month. I ran "CleanUp" recently and think that it could have caused the problem but I am not sure.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to upgrade my system from Windows ME to Windows XP but have been told that I should fix this problem prior to doing that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
