Hi there, basically I have a very basic knowledge of pcs being a 17yr old girl. I turned on my computer a few weeks ago and its stuck on a 16 colour setting resolution and the screen area wont change from 630 by 480 pixels. the options to change is just not there, it makes it obviously difficult to see photos and such and i was just curious toknow if anyone could give me some advice. Are the colours downloadable at all because they aren't present on my pc. Do I have to reboot.. how do i go about this lol?
pleaseee help!!!!!! xxx

Hi Stuntboywonder and welcome to G2G.

If you go to Control Panel > Display > Settings can you alter the resolution there or is 640 x 480 the only option?

Are your colours strange? Are they set to 16 colours and you cannot alter them?

If this is the case you have a problem with your graphics card ( the device on your motherboard that controls how your screen looks).

Post back.

Not a SOUND card - a GRAPHICS CARD and no, you may not need a new one you may just need to install the drivers for the existing one if we can find out what make it is.

Do you know the make and model number of your computer? It can often be found on the case.

Back again.

In case we have confused you a graphics card / video card are the same thing and sometimes it will be refered to as a display adapter.

If you click on My Computer > Control Panel > System > Device Manager and click on the + next to Display Adapters what does it say there?

Is there a yellow exclamation mark?

"Can it be fixed.." possibly - if it just needs the drivers re-installing yes - if the card is damaged you will need a new one.

Did you get a CD with "Motherboard Drivers" or similar on it when you bought the system?

Can you find the Serial Number for your system on the case?
