The other day, I found my system to be infected with what I thought was just spyware, but turned out to also be a trojan virus - EliteBar, if I recall correctly. I went through all the recommended programs and cleaners, and got rid of most of it, including the pop-ups, IE toolbar, and crashing of my other browsers.

The only problem left, though, is this process called Pokapoka79.exe... it just won't go away. Whenever I close it, or my antivirus (Ewido) deletes it, it re-creates itself instantly. It doesn't have any apparent effects, so I'm not sure what it's doing, but I don't want it there. I noticed it in the startup menu of MSconfig... I could un-check it there, but that wouldn't get rid of it...

Any ideas? I've already run Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor, Remove Toolbar Buddy, CWShredder, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ewido. I don't have XP SP2 installed, though.

Here's a new Hijackthis log, if it helps.

Thanks in advance!

Well, actually, I think pokapoka79.exe has been cleaned from my PC... Ewido does a really good job. The only problem I'm getting now is random popups on my desktop... I'll post the new log anyways, just to see if you guys can find anything else in there.
Thanks!

Hello Hatter

Please save these directions to notepad or print them out for us in safe mode

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.myseachexplorer.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.myseachexplorer.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myseachexplorer.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.myseachexplorer.com/sp2.php
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {2363B90D-362C-89D5-C0E8-16C44B7E2729} - C:\WINDOWS\Bsrgxdnu.dll
O2 - BHO: CExtension Object - {0019C3E2-DD48-4A6D-ABCD-8D32436323D9} - C:\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bxxs5] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll,DllRun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\System32\rkryko.exe reg_run
O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

cmdService
Windows Overlay Components

When you find them, double-click on each one. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

Windows Overlay Components

Click ok.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES *NOTE* you will be rebooting into safemode

(continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

Once in safemode

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\TWFyYyBHYWdub24A

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll

Now open Ewido

  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste if you saved to notepad or just type in):

Just a quick question... I'm in Services.msc. I can't find anything called "cmdService" but there is one called "Command Service". Are they the same thing?
Thanks!

Here you go... I deleted that item as you said, but it was in this log after I rebooted. So it must be re-creating itself or something.

OK lets try it this way

Disable Spywaredoctor and ewido Then fix the line with hijack then reboot if its still ther please do this

[*]Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot and post the winpfind text
