Is dvd drive for Dell C400 compatable with D400

I have just bought a Dell Latitude C400 laptop. It came with just a cd drive. Ebay has some C/D RW DVD drives for sale that say they will work with a Dell D400. Will this drive work with my C400??

as long as it's a standard ide optical drive it will work in any computer with a spare ide controller
