hey all ... long story short, I have enough popups here that if they were each a grain of salt, they'd be enough to salt three large pretzels, nine bags of Ready Salted crisps and a small saltpool found in the suburbs of Cornwall.

Now, I know for a fact that the rundll32 entry *is* one of the problems i need to rectify... a quick inspection of Process Explorer tells me it's trying to run C:\WINDOWS\system32\kxdda.dll ...

Also, there's a funny registry entry - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\Extensions ... but i've also seen it to be other things like Reliability or somethingorother ... it's different after every reboot.

currently, it's pointing to C:\windows\system32\p2p6lc7s1f.dll, which doesn't look too healthy to me.

also, the kxdda.dll entry can be found in Explorer's "Approved shell extensions" list.



but ... here's the catch ... whenever i try to remove the entries, they re-appear ... same deal in safe mode ... can't delete the files, can't remove entries, can't suspend the processes then do it ... i've exhausted every possibility i've learned as a computer technitian. My only last thought is maybe running a BartPE environment and doing it through that. Any other ideas?

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
