Unrecognized desktop icons after WinXP repair installation

It is unusual
Click start, all programmes, right clic a programme, click send to, send to desktop, create shortcut
Check the shortcut appears correctly and works, then left click the generic one for this programme then delete it, check the new icon still starts the programme
You might see a change if you run a system file check
Open the CD ROM Drive used to install Windows, insert the XP CD but leave the drawer open. Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, then close the CD ROM Drive drawer, You will get a blue progress bar, after the bar goes, reboot. This will check for and replace missing or corrupt system files.
