I seem to be having the typical alcan worm problems. Poor PC perfomance and it keeps reinstalling itself evey time I reboot my PC. I have read many posts on this problem and have downloaded and installed all of the required tools and performed all the scans prior to rebooting and ran HiJackThis to help eliminate this worm. Like I said I have read the post on "Before positing a HighJack This" log and have followed the instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. So here it is. Thanks in advance. Regards George.

Once you have Hijackthis running from a permanent folder, please reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

It should return a small log. Please post that in your next reply.



Click Start -> Run -> (type) services.msc

Scroll down and find the service called Command Service When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button(if available), then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.


Run Hijackthis and click on Open the Misc Tools section -> Delete an NT Service
Copy and paste this into the text box and click OK.

cmdService


Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and the log from Aimfix.

Well no sign of the alcan worm but im still getting the same couple of pop-ups that started when i found the worm on my system....Everything else seems to be fine i just wish i could eliminate these irritating pop ups....
Ive recently started using Mozilla as my browser but these pop ups are opening in Internet Explorer....

If you're getting popups with IE when you're using Firefox, that would indicate that we're still dealing with something here.

Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.

• Install ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
• The program will now go to the main screen

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.

• On the left hand side of the main screen click update
• Then click on Start Update

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
• When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop.

Now close ewido security suite.


Reboot your computer and post a new hijackthis log and the log from Ewido.

Here is the log....My PC seems to be running much faster now....also before my PC shuts down it flashes a message that "something failed" b/c, and this is the best i can make of the message b/c is flashes so fast, ZIPll.Dll or something like this failed b/c windows is shutting down..

Still getting the same few pop-ups....edwido keeps finding and cleaning a couple of things every time i run it...but they always come back sort of like the alcan worm....any thoughts??

For some reason the pop ups are becoming very frequent and numerous alomost to the point to where its become a serious hinndrence while on line edwio, spybot search and destroy, and ad aware have bee run and edwido is the only program that has found and "cleanded" any thing.....
