Just upgraded to Mandriva 2006 on a PC and a laptop.
What is the easiest way to setup a nework between the two?

I have DSL and both computers are connected to the internet.

I am a newbie to networking.

You say both computers are connected to the internet so i assume you have some kind of switch or router hooked up. Are you basically asking how to access files from one computer to the other?
