I'm sure I could- I just renewed it in September.

The problem has not returned since I added the Ip address to my "trusted zones", would it be Ok to just keep it like this, or is that not a safe thing to do?

I am fairly new to computers, I know how to uninstall a program, but how do I re-install it? Do I need to go to the website? And how do I protect myself while I am installing it?

I downloaded the Norton from their website. I have never saved it on a disc or anything.


I re-configured the Norton Firewall, and added the IP address 127.0.01 to my "trusted zones", thus stopping the Norton from blocking the pages, that is not enough to solve the problem permanently? Or is this somthing that I really shouldn't stay in?

I went through the support system at Symantec, and I got the directions on how to reinstall the Norton. In the directions, it says i need to start the computer with no programs loading (clean boot mode). Will that prevent me from accessing the internet? Another question I have is, how do I protect my computer while I am reinstalling the Norton? It looks like it will take a while, and I will be at the web site to load it.

1. I don't know what clean boot mode means, so I can't tell you if it will prevent you from accessing the Internet.

2. When you are reinstalling Norton, just disconnect from the Internet.

As long as you are disconnected from the Internet while you are uninstalling/reinstalling Norton, you should be fine.

That fix might very well work. Try creating the loopback, then remove you entry and see if it works for you.

Ok, looks good. Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. :tazz:
  • On a regular basis, please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.
  • In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:
    • Ad-Aware SE. A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. You have this installed currently. Please keep it updated and run it on a regular basis.[
    • Spybot-Search & Destroy. A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features. You have this installed currently. Please keep it updated and run it on a regular basis.
    • SpywareBlaster. A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.
    • SpywareGuard. A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.
    Keeping these programs up-to-date and running them regularly can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.
  • Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here.
  • Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

Thank you so much, I will use your reccomendations.

A quick question about the windows update. I have SP2, and my computer regularly updates itself when I shut down. Is that the "critical updates" that you mention, or are these different ones?

And, I have Spybot and AdAware, the other two are reccomended on top of those two?
