Hello, and thank you in advance for all you help. I started out with the lockx.exe file, and came here for info how to remove it. I went through everything step by step from the "start here" post. I subsequently updated my pc-cillin to the 2005 internet security and removed adaware, spybot, ewido, and trojan hunter. I don't know if that was ok, but I kept reading that having too many of these programs at once could have adverse reactions, and I also updated windows. HAven't had any return of lockx, or anything else as far as I know. My computer then started restarting over and over again with the driver_IRQL_ NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL, and mem dump. I rebooted, and finally was able to get into settings, restored everything back to defaults, just to make sure, then ran diagnostics by way of start>run>dxdiag. Everything was fine there, and so far so good, computer's still running slow, and I'm not sure if the irql thing is taken care of, or if there's anymore spyware, viruses, etc. I ran hijack this and here is my log. Hello Metallica
I followed the program, ran it, and it said there was 2 things found and removed. I rebooted, and then came the lovely blue screen: Driver irql less than or equal, etc, etc. That happened two times, I was then able to get the computer to run long enough to do a hijack log, but then it went to blue again and restarted again with the same thing. Below is the HJL from just before the third time it went to blue. Right after the computer finished loading, which took forever, it came up with the windows has recovered from a serious error message, and took me to windows crash analysis, which suggested the info below. Since then, computer is running so far, so I will send this now before it's too late, lol =)

Hello, I was unable to get the BFU from computercops, but I did get it from majorgeeks.com. The computer has been shutting down to blue screen over and over again, the only was I was able to run anything was to go into safe mode, which I am in now. I ran the Hi jack this and removed/fixed everything you said to check, I ran the BFU, and re did the hijack this, this is the latest log:

I'm afraid something is missing rather then having something that doesn't belong on your computer.

Did you have System restore enabled and can you go bgack to a point before the lockx infection ?

Maybe the virus or one of the scans you did removed something vital.

Let me know. If this doesn't work we will have to find out which driver (if I guessed right) has gone.

Hello, sorry it took me so long to post, I went to so a system restore, but I can't, it was shut off while I was in safe mode. I tried to check through all the drivers, but I couldn't find anything that wasn't working properly or that needed updating. The Irql error message has come up a couple of times while trying to get onto my computer, and then it restarts. My computer is running very slow, and at timews, now it just locks up and the only way I can get out is ctrl-alt-del, and shut down from task manager. I was thinking about doing a system recovery, but I am afraid to lose anything. Is there anyway to do a partial recovery, and just reinstall all drivers? Thank you, Kristine

Yeah, I figured it would be more work to do, but better than the olde driver_irql_ thing popping up all the time. The other thing I was thinking of doing is the system recovery, but I hate the way it saves the files that you already have on your computer. Which do you think will be the better way to go? You mean System Restore or System Recovery?

There is a big difference.
System Restore is a Windows feature to turn back the clock (a bit)

System Recovery is usually done by manufacturers CD's that bring back the computer to the exact same state it was in when you got it (which means youn loose everything you added afterwards)

I was thinking of the non-desructive system restore, which saves everything that I have now but to a windows folder. It will probably be better if I just download a copy of the windows cd from the website I mentioned above ans just run that instead of trying anything else, which will probably be more confusing and cost me to lose somethings.
