Google hijacked - i've tried everything....

What a nightmare. I have somehow been infected with this stubborn malware/scumware google hijacker and I have tried everyting to remove it. I followed the advice to the letter on "read this before posting" and while it has removed lots of stuff, I still have this hijacked google toolbar. I removed the toolbar and reinstalled it and for every search I do, it comes up with creditcards/p*** in an imitation google window. When I click on the next button at the bottom, it seems to revert back to the first page a google search so its not sooo bad.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

Yep - everything installed OK. Firstly I downloaded from the "read this before posting" post and then I downloaded from the link above and still I have the same log file heading. thats the third install I've done from the MS site. Maybe I should go back to Win 3.11....!

I've spent more time on the microsoft site than is good for me! I've installed every update that there is on the website and now microsoft want me to install SP2. After reading the warning on the sticky thread, i'm reluctant to do this.

From reading the differences between SP1 and SP1a on the MS website, is it possible to remove whatever has hijacked google while having SP1 installed?

Sorry for all the questions...I seem to have hit a dead end here....
