UGHH!!!

I need help. Can't find my recovery disks ANYWHERE!!! I am going in circles.

I have been having issue, after issue, with my computer and spyware, browser redirection, hijack attempts...

I downloaded spybot, and Micro Trend Anti Spy (?) is that the name of it. Each one ALWAYS gets errors, when ran indpendently, it picks up everything from 1800seachassistant - (over and over), to CWS!!!

I keep trying to clean it over and over. I got frustrated yesterday looking threw my WIN files, seeing all sorts of things burried in there from Golden Palace Casino, to other crap.

I started to delete things, remove, etc.

Well.. silly me, not being framiliar with the do's/dont's what to keep and what to throw away.. I accidently "hooked up" - lol, my system32 files...

Now I can't find the recovery disk..

Anyone know anyway to fix this? the error is the topic title.

Please pm me, and fogive my stupidity of trying to fix it myself =)

I have a lap top, no burner to download and fix anything.

my desktop (with the error) wont allow me to do anything but F2 - Set up,... or press "R" with a disc to try to recover, for which - I have no disk - or should I say, cannot find them anywhere!

Thank you =)

Unfortunately without the ability to at least burn a Recovery Console CD, there isn't really anything that can be done to fix your problem. You need to either get your hands on a friend/family member's xp cd or you need to burn a cd with the recovery console on it.

Just curious, but when you boot up your computer, are you given an option of starting the Recovery Console?

Actually there is a way to install the recovery console without the XP cd, so once you reply to this topic we can see if you are able to do it. To do it, you will need to have either a folder called i386 in your base C:\ directory or in the C:\Windows directory (so C:\i386 or C:\WINDOWS\i386). If you have the i386 in either of those locations than you are in luck! :tazz:

It allows me to run "f2" or allows me the option of "r" to recover, but it instantly looks for a CD, or disc. It doesn't give me the option of selecting "C'.. but then again, I am not a super guru of windows.. so is there a way to over ride looking for it in the CD Roms, and tell it to look for it on c:???

or a way from f2, to do anything creative, or get to a DOS prompt? Would I be able to do anything from that if I could get there?

I can do either "r" recover from disc, or I can f2 to setup, or f12 - to boot menu..

These are the only choices it displays. unless you know of other ways to get more options????

Okay, I got to the other menu for where you can select safe mode, and various options.. but none of those work of course to get me anywhere.. it keeps taking me back to the error, which is the exact title of my post, is what it tells me verbatim...

My mom has windows ME, so I am stuck there...

My laptop has <???> but no way to burn. I did have one of those keychain things that you can back stuff up on, but I can't find that either, I am on a roll.. (I recently moved, and some of my items are lost.. I don't know where/what happened... unfortunately allot of what is misisng is computer related. I think it accidently got donated...)

Really not much that can be done until you get an XP cd from a friend/family member since you can't even boot into safe mode.

I don't know if your Hard drive is formatted with NTFS or FAT32, but this is worth a try. Create a startup floppy disk using your mom's Windows ME computer. Then put that floppy in your desktop and then turn it on. Choose start computer w/o cd-rom support. Once at the A:\ prompt, type C: and then dir. If it lists your systems files then we know it is in fat32 and not NTFS.

Lemme know.
