my first question is why?

best way to do that is to mosey on down to your local software shop and buy a new copy of windows, reformat the disk, and install the new one.

but again, why?

You can use any valid product key when installing windows XP. One should have come with your copy of Windows. If you have lost you product key you can call Microsoft explain why you lost it and ask for another one sometimes.
