Every time i try to open up a video file, an error pops up and says
[Insert Player] has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

if you were in the middle of something... blah blah blah

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us... blah blah blah

(send error report) (don't send)

if u have any suggestions or have had this problem before, any help will be much appreciated.

This could well be a codec problem. Either not having the right codec on hand or a conflict between codecs. You can download an appy called GSpot and open files with it to find what codecs are needed and if you have them.
