full screen problems

when ever i play a video in windows media player it automatically goes to full screen mode and then once it is in full screen mode i cant click the mouse button and the only way to exit the programe is to alt and f4 it. this then exits all other programmes i have open. it also happens in dvd player programmes. i think it has something to do with the resolution but i've changed a few things but i cant get anything to work. please help any advise would be helpful.
