1GB SD card Problem(?)

i just purchased a 1GB SD card at officeddepot.com... it works when i use it with Canon SD500. BUT when im trying to put in my laptop i cant open the card, it say its not formatted. then askin me if i want to format it-click yes.. nothings happen. my question is IS IT NORMAL? or do i have a defective one... pls. help me. need this ASAP. thanx in advace!

Hi. It may be that the reader in the laptop is not able to read the Canon format. Does your camera have a USB or Firewire cable connection that you can use to transfer the images to your laptop? I would try that first. If you said yes to format on your computer when you tried to read it, you may have erased any pictures that were on it.
