Ok i have run all th typical checks and scans. I ran avg no problems. I ran trendmicros, no problems. I ean cwshredder, no problems. I ran spybot s&d, no problems. SO finally, i ran hijack this and I am not qualified to read the log to fix the prolem...Which is- after installing yahoo mesenger, anytime I type any name into the address bar, my browser automatically goes to the yahoo advanced search page, if i actually type out "www..geekstogo.com" THEN it will take me where I want to go. I uninstalled yahoo messenger and everything associated with it I.e. the browser helper, the search bar, the application. ALL OF IT! The problem still persist!

Can some one please :tazz: me! this problem is interfering with my work, as i use the internet heavily.

I ran HiJack this and have the log file ready to post. I am sure there is a lot of other stuff running in the background that doesn't need to be there! Please, and Thank you!
W2B :)

Please post it. I just looked at your log very quickly thinking that might solve it. Also, please do this for me.

* Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Hey coach,

As always I start with my thanks for all your :woot: The sshla.local that you are asking about is the one of the networks that I am the administrator of. I work in the industry as a network engineer. Shamed to say that I have never been really adept at the inner workings of the pc; even though I design enterprise level networks to operate under specified guildlines. Anyway, sshla(Southern Surgical Hospital of Louisiana) is one of the network systems that i designed. So anything sshla is OK :) It is a secured network.

Thank agian. I hope that one day I can aspire to know more more about the way these things actually work. LOL! Nuts and bolts (infrastucture and configuration, wireless technology and topology) I understand completly :tazz: Why my [bleep] browser redirects and the source of infections and anoyances, beyond my grasp!:)

So thanks again!

I want to make sure I understand you: are you asking if you can just type in geekstogo.com instead of www.geekstogo.com ?

Hey Coach,

Right! The problem is that after I installed the Yahoo messenger, when I type in the address bar "geekstogo" (or any other webite) intstead of "www.geekstogo.com" I am redirected to the Yahoo advanced search engine. This never happened before that install. I have since removed ALL Yahoo messenger extras. the ONLY thing that I left was the messenger application itself.

Before that install When i typed "geekstogo" in the address bar and hit <enter> the browser would by default goto www.geekstogo.com. Also, as by default, if i typed geekstogo in the address bar and hit <control> <enter> at the same time, the browser would add the "www' and ".com" and take me there. Now it just goes to the Yahoo advanced search.

I hope this information clears it up for you.

as always thank you very much for your assistance with this problem. Being a tech myself, I feel like a heel :tazz: when I can't resolve these stupid little anoyances myself. So, Thamk you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I am having a major mental block and I'm having difficulty finding the instructions to tell you how to do this. I should know it verbatim, but like I said, Major Mental block. Here's some info, but there's better info out there. I'm still searching. :tazz:

Tip B.2) This is an even better tip: if you are going to an http://www.something.com address, IE will type the http://www. and the .com for you!For example. If you type about and press CTRL-Enter, the IE browser will type http://www.about.com for you! If you type darwinawards and press CTRL-Enter, then IE browser will type http://www.darwinawards.com for you!
Purpose: Save yourself even more typing by using the CTRL-Enter keystroke to open a .com web page.
How: In your URL address bar, click or drag-select (highlight) all the URL text until it turns reversed blue-white. Type the middle portion of your desired www.middleportion.com URL. Press CTRL-Enter (hold one of the two CTRL keys, then poke the Enter key.) Voila!
Warning 1: this CTRL-Enter trick only works for www.something.com commercial addresses. If you want to go a .ca or .net or .au or .uk address, you will have to manually type that.
Warning 2: The Autocomplete setting must be enabled in your browser options. Check this by clicking Tools menu, Internet Options, Content tab, Autocomplete..., Web Addresses.

Hey Coach,

Well that is what zi am saying... THe default for thecontrol enter combination works. What doesn't work properly is when I just type the middle portion of the address and hit enter. I don't know how else to explain the problem. When I just type the middle portion fo an address and hit the enter key I get redirected to the yahoo advanced search page. I wish you could see it for yourself and you would understand immediately! Is there a way that I can call you or you call me with out posting my number on the board for the world to see? I think that i could explain this better via voice conection. Let me know.

I can not tell you how much I appreciate all your hard work and research to repair this problem. I start back tomorrow on my job and this is going to becom more than just an anoyance. angain I really appreciate all your help.

I think that the yahoo install implanted something into the registry that is causing this. Idunno?? This one is baffling me too.

Thanks
