Hello,

For the past few months I feel as if my computer has been dying due to the numerous and unfixable attacks by the above mentioned virus. When im surfing the web or just right clicking a folder to view its properties... this error comes up and freezes my computer instantly. I have been forced to reboot every single time until recently ... when i started using zone alarm to stop the program from launching. That is a very temporary fix as it still causes errors even though it itself is being restricted. If anyone could assist me, i would be quite indebted. Here is my hijack file

First Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Then, download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:

Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, if it does go ahead and reboot.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log.

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

After your computer reboots, please delete the following folder:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\Windows TaskAd

Then please do this for me:

Open HijackThis.
Click on None of the above, just start the program
Click Config (bottom right)
Click Misc Tools
Click Open Uninstall Manager
Click Save List - Save it anywhere.
A notepad will pop-up after it's saved, please copy everything in that Notepad and paste it here.

Hello again

Go to Start > Control Panel

Double-Click User Accounts
Choose Create a new Account
Type any name for the account then click Next
Choose Computer Administrator then click Create Account

Log off your current account.

Reboot your computer, then log-in to the new account you just created.

Are you recieving the Dr Watson error messages on this new account?

Did you happen to notice when you started receiving the messages? After downloading a certain program or anything like that?

The error didnt happen on the new screen name. WHenever i right click on the winnt folder the error comes up for sure, so i checked it using that. Maybe i should just transfer the files?

Excellent ... It's actually not too difficult to move personal data to the new account, it's much easier than it sounds. Here are the instructions for it:

First do you use Outlook Express??

Please follow all instructions exactly - I would advise printing them out:

1.) I need you to create a third administrator account.

2.) Log off your current account and Log-in to the THIRD account.

3.) Go into Windows Explorer. You can get to Windows Explorer by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer. Once in Windows Explorer, go up to View > Explorer Bar and put a check next to "Folders".

4.) Then go up to Tools > Folder Options. Click the "View" tab and click "Show Hidden Files and Folders". UNcheck "Hide File Extensions for known file types" and UNcheck "Hide protected operating system files"

5.) Navigate to this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Old Username

* Old Username is not the actual name of that folder. The name of this folder is whatever name you have for the account with problems.

Once inside that folder, PRESS and HOLD the ctrl key. Then use your mouse and LEFT-click ALL files and folders to highlight them EXCEPT the following:

Ntuser.dat
Ntuser.dat.log
Ntuser.ini

Do NOT highlight those 3 files!

Once ALL files and folders are highlighted (except the above three!) go up to "Edit > Copy"

Now, navigate to this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\New Username

New Username is whatever the name of your SECOND account (make sure it's NOT the 3rd account!)

Once inside that folder, go up to "Edit > Paste"

Now, log-off the third account and log-in into the SECOND account and your data will be there now.

However, if you use Outlook we will have to copy your e-mails a different way so do NOT delete the first account yet! Just let me know if everything in the 2nd account is good after moving your data to it.

When i try to access my problematic account from the third account, it says the access is denied, even though that third account is administrator. I certainly dont have any protections on that folder either.

Let's try it this way:

You may want to print out my previous instructions!

Reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears, choose "Safe Mode" then hit enter.

When you get to the log-in screen, Log in as Administrator (not the user accounts). Using Windows Explorer, navigate to your problematic profile folder, does it allow you access it from this account? If so, then while your logged on under the Administrator in Safe Mode, follow my previous instructions to move your data from the problematic account to the 2nd account.

I'm not sure why you're being denied access, but let's try regaining access.

Boot into Safe Mode, log-in under Administrator.

Navigate to the profiles which are giving you the access denied error under C:\Documents and Settings.

Right-click on the profile folder and go to properties. Click the security tab. Change the permission box tab to "Administrator" (make sure Administrators under user groups is highlighted) now select "Allow" under Full Control click apply, click OK.

Now try following my previous instructions and see if it will let you.
