i have recently reinstalled a 120 GB HD after a backdoor virus destroyed the original. I reinstalled XP pro SP1 and its a Dell Dimension 8300. In System Information under Network Adapter I get the Name as RAS Async Adapter, type not available, Prod Type is RAS Async Adapter, installed=yes, PNP Device ID= not available
Service Name= Async Mac, IP address, IP Subnet, Default IP Gateway DHCP Server, DHCP Lease Exp, and MAC address are all "Not Available", DHCP Enabled= NO
I cannot ping my network 4 port router or my other machine on the network which both are set with static IP addresses, the ethernet light in the back on the Dimension is orange (where the Cat 5 cable plugs in)
what am I doing wrong and do I need to go buy a 3rd party NIC??
thanks for your help

it sounds like you need to get the drivers for your NIC card...go to the dell website and download the drivers and install them
