Please help!

Some sort of malware is present, but I'm not sure what. Maybe it is WinFixer... there have been a few popups asking me to download "WinFixer" to "fix" my system popups and problems...

Please create a directory on your c: drive called c:\hijackthis and download and unzip hijackthis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.

Once you have Hijackthis running from a permanent folder, please reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

I'd like to add as a description of what's happening now, I was able to get rid of some of the problem by running another Norton Antivirus scan, but now I get random popups that sometimes appear in Firefox, and more often load an IE window (and I almost never us IE as a browser)

I see you have already posted a L2Mfix log, so we just need to proceed with that fix and we'll see if it's all gone.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix.

I tried this, but after the icons disappeared and the script ran, nothing ever came back up on the desktop. After a hard-reboot (after hours of sitting there) I found this log.txt file in the root of the c: drive:

That's fine. The L2MFix log shows that infection is not present. So we're dealing with something else here.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.


Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Thanks for the help so far. I thought that everything was fixed, and was going to post an enthusiastic thank-you, when I started having another big problem.

First, every time Spybot runs, it finds and says that it fixes the "Command Service" which is listed as "disabled" in the services control panel. Not sure if this is the problem or not. Also, during startup (win XP pro), there is a long time with a black screen between the windows logo and being able to login.

The major problem seems to be that whenever I am connected to the internet right now, the process "winlogon.exe" takes up high (99%) CPU usage, and the system slows almost to a halt. The Netsky virus doesn't seem to be present (not found by Norton Antivirus nor by the Netsky specific removal tool.) And occasionally Norton says that a process is trying to send an email (no email programs are started.)

In fact, to type this, I had to disconnect the network cable, type the message, and then I'll re-connect the cable to send it.

PLEASE HELP!

I can't figure out what winlogon.exe is doing, but it's taking over somehow.

Okay, I deleted the files as indicated.

Now, it takes a long time when starting the computer with a long delay during the "Windows is starting up.." screen.

The same problem exists with 'winlogon.exe' taking 99% CPU usage, and strange emails trying to be sent.

The computer acts fine if I unplug the network.
