Hi,

I have a HP Pavillion 8755c running Windows Me (not the one I am using right now). Anyhow, the computer always seems to have one problem or another, but this is a tough one.

When I boot my computer, the mouse is not recognized and there is no pointer on the screen. I get an error when I get to the desktop that says:

"Run.dll has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL Run.dll will close"

I do not know if it caused the problem, but the last thing I did on it was install an Encyclopedia Brittanica DVD on the computer. It seemed to be working fine before that and it closed down fine afterwards. Needless to say, without a mouse, it's tough to get around.

Thanks for any help.

Hey jbittner1. Welcome to GTG.

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
