someone please help me.
im working on a computer that had windows ME installed.
i went to upgrade to XP (it had all the requirements to upgrade) but when "XP" failed to install correctly ME was still on the computer and the ME had converted itself to DOS.

how do i fix this? is there any way i can restore my ME without the Restoration Disk?

Can you run anything from dos like scanreg, scandisk, regedit ?
What happens when you type

cd windows .........press enter
win ............press enter

How did you try to install XP.
Was it an upgrade disc
or was it a new version of XP clean install
Does the computer start at all
if yes what is on the screen

it was a clean install.
but the D drive is not running as far as i can see.
i go to "my computer" and there is only the C & A drives.

i checked the drive manager && it said that it was running in MS-Dos.

i am not very familiar with Dos. I'll try to run those programs, though.

But The computer is completely useless to me. I cant do anything.
the D drive is not reading. How can i get it to recognize?

it starts up fine. it comes in as Windows ME but it shows 16 bit color.
No Cd-Rom drive is being noticed.
I need to wipe out ME, i think. But I dont have a Format Disk.

what comes on to the screen when you start the computer
a desktop or a dos prompt
did you convert your drive to NTFS

i cant.
it didnt fully install to begin with.
i went to add/remove programs and there is NOTHING there. not even windows ME.
nothing at all. Should i just format it? and try to upload XP?

A format of the har drive loses all your data.
To start in safe mode with command prompt reboot and as soon as your computer starts
start tapping the F8 key

1. Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

NOTE: You must log on as an administrator or a user that has administrator rights.
2. At the command prompt, type cd\, and then press ENTER.
3. Type cd\windows\system32, and then press ENTER.
4. Type osuninst.exe, and then press ENTER.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to begin uninstalling Windows XP from your computer to restore the previous operating system.

If you rae not worried about losing your data then just boot form the XP cd since its a full version and just install XO from there, it will give you the option to delete and create partitions and format the partitions you created, then just follow the onscreen instructs.

i've tried. my Cd-Rom drive isnt working. The computer is not recognizing it.

Do you have an ME boot floppy? If so boot from that and you should be able to access the cd-rom. Is the cd-rom drive listed in BIOS? if not you may want to check the physical connections or just pull them out and reseat them, be sure to ground yourself first!

ive tried everything.
i cant format it. it wont let me. i hate ME.
would i be able to load abother harddrive into that computer & delete ME off the XP harddrive?
I made a start-up disk using ME. but my system BIOS is just wierd. Would i put the A drive as primary master boot? and then the E drive (my D drive) as the primary slave boot? and the harddrive (C:) as the secondary Master?
