I guess I'm having the same problem that a lot of other people are having. I've gone through all the steps that were recommended and I still get the Error Loading message when I open a user on my computer and then EWIDO continues to notify me that I have the same adware files on my computer. Can you help? Here is my HiJackThis log.

Hi Big Sid and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

That error message your getting is from a dialer. Lets take care of the vundo infection, then we will jump right into the others you have.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddabb.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbadd.*

This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddabb - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddabb.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssqpo - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssqpo.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Here is everything that you asked me to do. I had a problem with ActiveScan and wasn't able to open any of the tabs associated with it's findings so if they were to tell what virus' or spyware that is still on my computer.

I've also run into another problem, on my account I'm not able to access my account on Excite.com. It tells me that my browser is not accepting cookies or Java Scripts but I have them enabled and another account on my computer is not accepting the .pst for Outlook. It's telling me that they don't have permissions. Other than that everything seems to be working and I don't have the error loading pop up on log-in and my computer is running faster.

Excal,

Also, I didn't have these problems until I loaded McAfee from Comcast. Could this have been laying dormant until I put McAfee or did I get it in the change over. I was also told by someone that McAfee doesn't play well with games. I do have access to Nortons, which one do you recommend and should I still keep these other programs up and running that I used to help take care of this problem?

Thanks.

If you had no problems like what your having now, I would certainly use the process of ellimination and uninstall it. There are a few very good free AntiVirus programs out there that you can use. I use a Sygate Firewall/AVG combo for my Firewall and Anti-Virus.

I would like for you to try Firefox browser. Its free and safer than Internet Explorer.

Listed Porgrams below

Copy everything inside the quote box below (starting with dir) and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as findfile.bat on your Desktop.

dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\r?ndll.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate findfile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the contents of that Notepad here along with a new HiJackThis log.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

I do plan on removing McAfee. The company that I work for supplies us with a copy of Symantic for use at home and was considering that. For detection I now have Ad-aware SE and Spybot S&D and also Trojan Hunter all thanks to your site and my initial try to clean up this problem. As for the anti-virus, I'm running the 14 day free trial of Ewido but look into the the others that you suggested and will make the complete change when I change my firewall. My biggest concern is that I have a young one and I want to make sure that whatever I use has the capability to limit his access. I'm currently using FireFox as I type this and it has allowed me to log onto Excite so that looks good. I was also able to correct the Outlook problem, when I backed up my files the attributes to the .pst file changed to read-only so everything looks. I appreciate your assistance and do plan on making a contribution only I find out about a message that came from PayPal about someone trying to access my account from overseas. The letter looked strange and fit the criteria for someone trying to get information from me so I sent it to their spoof section. Once I hear from them and know that everything is okay I'll donate. I really thank you for your help.

Big Sid

P.S. I do see that I've lost some of my mouse's functions in FireFox but I think I can trace that. I also get a warning from them about some information not being encrypted.

Well I am glad to hear that your almost 100% back to normal. I don't think the remaining problems are malware related. I would suggest that you post in our XP forum - http://www.geekstogo...2003-NT-f5.html or our internet/browser forum - http://www.geekstogo...owsers-f26.html if any other problems arise.

thanks,
