Hello!!

Michael, John! help!!

WEll i did what u guys said, i reinstalled windows, My system restore works now. My Windows XP's windows such as when i open "my documents" "my pc" "add or remove programs" no longer freeze. And my computer now does shutdown or restarts Finally i can shutdown my computer the right way! I'm so glad!

Well the thing nwo is that i'm trying to install AVG and well for that i wanted to delete my norton. But there is one problem... when i go to the add/delete programs, i selected norton adn tried to uninstall it, and this message came up: "The windows installer service could not be accessed. this can occur if you are running windows in a safe mode, or if the Windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact yoru support personal for assistance."

Well i went to Run andi wrote: services.msc, and windows installer does appear installed and "started".

and well now i d unno what to do to uninstall the programs, cos this happend if i want to uninstall any program.

Are you sure that you got AVG to load into this machine? I see no trace of it anywhere.

Onto the hijack log portion.

Fire up hijack this, press scan only and place a check next to this.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

Close all browsers and click fix on hijack this.

Then I want you to get a tool and run it for me.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.

• Install ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
• The program will now open to the main screen.
• When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  
• You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  (the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
• Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.

When this is done please reboot and show me the log from ewido and a new hijack log please.

Ahoy there!!

Thanks for the help John! I was not able to install AVG to this pc, just to my laptop. I wanted to install it after i deleted norton, but as you see, i couldnt delete norton.

Ok i did what you said and i will post the logs now. oh! one more thing about my pc. It does shutdown or restart now, as i told you, but when i choose to shutdown it or restart it, it takes a long time for the lil window with the "shutdown options" to show up, like about 4 minutes. and when my comp finally starts to work, it takes also time for the icons in my desktop to show.

Ok carrot lets try a couple maintenace tools and see if they will help at all.

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):

• Click the Free Trial link under to "SpySweeper" to download the program.
• Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open.
• It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
• Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
• Click the Sweep Options tab.
• Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
  • Sweep Memory
  • Sweep Registry
  • Sweep Cookies
  • Sweep All User Accounts
  • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
  • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
  • Sweep for Rootkits
  • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
• Click Sweep Now on the left side.
• Click the Start button.
• When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
• Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
• It will remove all of the items found.
• Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
• Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
• Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Then run this tool.

Ccleaner

Install it, and let it put shortcuts to your Recycle Bin for convenience. Open it, and click on the Options button, and then on the Advanced button; untick the box next to Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours, then click "Ok". Click on "Run Cleaner" and let it do its thing (getting rid of all Temp, temp internet files, cookies, etc..).

And lastly do these instructions.

For a system clean up:

Go into start/all programs/accessories/system tools/click on disk cleanup make sure downloaded program files, temporary internet files, temporary files and recycle bin are all ticked. Hit ok and then the clean up will begin, sometimes this takes a few minutes depends how long since the last job has been ran.

Defrag:

Same way to get to the defrag as you used to get to disk cleanup. When you click on disk defrag a box will open, click on defragment the defrag will begin, again the time it takes will depend on how long since it’s been done.

Show me the spysweeper log and a new hijack log done when completed.

• Open HiJackThis!
• Click on "Open the Misc Tools section"
• Click on "Open Uninstall Manager..."
• Click on the button "Save list"
• Copy and paste the List from the NotePad file into your next reply

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

There are different browsers available on the net, other than Internet Explorer, we believe!! these are better for security purposes :

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

This can be accessed by going to Windows Updates and following the prompts.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :
