Hi there,

Me and my friend greg have invented a flash game called rocket man and its really good!

We want to add the music 'Rocket man' by elton john into the background.

Would this be copywright?

Or would you have to mention that the music is by him or get permission by elton john?

Weebls stuff did it with one of their weebl and bob episodes. They added busted music.

It will be copyright and you can be in lots of serious trouble for it as well if it's going online.

As for Busted, there's usually an agreement of sorts which involves money and what they can do with said ditty. Which you don't have.

Not to mention other annoyances by this method, such as it taking literally all day to download for slower internet users.

For strictly offline use, it's not such a big deal but online you can and often do get hammered for it.

I think you can add a midi version of the song, I've seen it done a lot.

You usually have to ask the publishers they usually give permission as long as its non profit.

MIDI music you can usually get away with with no concerns, you can google the MIDI track. You don't need to email Elton John, he probably wouldn't read it anyway what with it being stopped at the record company's level.

But if you plan to put an MP3 there instead, then you could be for the high jump.

So i could put a midi version of the song in the background?

And do i have to check that there is no copywrite on the midi version?

Well MIDI music is just other music essentially "remade" (for want of a better word) by other people. But as they are, in a nutshell, crap sounding and sound different across various systems anyway, plus the MIDI format has no ability to actually store any musical data or vocals.

There's nothing to be concerned about. Just find the MIDI tune you want and use it. Most MIDI authors have a fair use clause which essentially boils down to "don't sell it".

midi files are generally not copywritten...but they can be...just check with the site you download from...if it's a reputable source...they will probably have info on the copyright stuff...plus..they will probably charge you for the download..

Ok thanks!

And how did weebls-stuff put in busted music in their weebl & bob cartoon 'ouch'?

Did weebls-stuff ask the band busted who made the song?

Oh, so royalties basically.

And, say if i took elton johns song 'rocket man', then i imported it in to adobe audition, then i editid it into a remix, so that bits are reversed, echoed, faded etc....

Will that still be compwright if i put the remix in the flash cartoon?

Are you allowed to put a weebls-stuff cartoon on your website?

Or do you have to pay weebls-stuff?

You can get some nice midi files from the following websites.. and they tell you if some are official (you need to pay for the ones with a copyright)

http://www.mididb.com/
http://www.musicrobot.com/

Enjoy~!
