Hi Wolv3rin3

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

i have already used ewido in safe mode and have updated definitions of NAV 2005 on my comp. even downloaded l2m removal tool from symantec (it even fails to find the l2m spyware). nothing seems to work. ewido removes them in the safe mode but when i log back into normal mode, ewido pops up with detection warnings even before, i could see the icons on my desktop.
thx for helping me!

Hi Wolv3rin3

I would like hit this infection with Spysweeper first.

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
  • Click the Free Trial link on the right - next to "SpySweeper for Home Computers" to download the program.
  • Double-click the file to install it as follows:
    • Click "Next", read the agreement, Click "Next"
    • Choose "Custom" click "Next".
    • Leave the default installation directory as it is, then click "Next".
    • UNcheck "Run SpySweeper at Windows Startup" and "Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu". Click "Next".
    • On the following screen you can leave the e-mail address field blank, if you wish. Click "Next".
    • Finally, click "Install"
  • Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
  • Click the Sweep Options tab.
  • Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
    • Sweep Memory
    • Sweep Registry
    • Sweep Cookies
    • Sweep All User Accounts
    • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
    • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
    • Sweep for Rootkits
    • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
  • Click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.
If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log as well as the spysweeper log in this same topic , and let us know how your system's working. :)

I rebooted after doing a scan with sweeper and ewido popped up a warning. i cleaned it and then once again ran sweeper. found out that the warnings were coming from nprotect (recycle bin). i then removed all the files present in the nprotect recycle bin.
i dont wanna jump the gun but its so far so good .

do tell me if you need anything else. thx for your help. :tazz::notworthy::):notworthy::)

Hi Wolv3rin3

Glad to hear things are better :)

For the next part I need you to disable Spysweeper

To disable SpySweeper Shields
  • Open Spysweeper
  • Click Shields on the left.
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Exit Spysweeper.
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - 3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ShellCompatibility - C:\WINDOWS\system32\e4jm0e11eh.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: TaskMon - C:\WINDOWS\system32\e020lafm1d2a.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):
Use windows search facility if you have trouble finding these files.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\e4jm0e11eh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\e020lafm1d2a.dll

After that, Reboot.

Next, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Please rescan with HJT and post the log along with the active scan log.

Andy :tazz:

Hi Wolv3rin3

Looking good so far :)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - 3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

I Forgot to tell you show hidden files in my last post, so follow the instuctions below and see if the files are there. Do not worry if you cannot find them.

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Click This link for further help.

Check for an delete the files below (if present)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\e4jm0e11eh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\e020lafm1d2a.dll

After that Reboot

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :)

Hi Wolv3rin3

Lets see if we can get them in safe mode

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode scan with HJT and fix the two entries.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - 3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Reboot into normal windows, open HJT scan and post the log.

Hi Wolv3rin3

Let's see if Spysweeper can finish this off in safe mode.

Ensure Spysweeper is updated.
Reboot into safe mode
Open Spysweeper and run a full scan.
Do not open any windows/programs for the duration of the scan
After the scan is complete, reboot into normal windows.
Rescan with HJT and post a new log along with the Spysweeper log in your reply.

Hello Wolv3rin3 :tazz:

Let's do this please:

Be very careful to follow these instructions exactly, because we're dealing with the registry and we do not want anything wrong done here!

Please download Registrar Registry Manager from here:
http://www.resplende...nload/rrtri.exe

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks

In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.

We want to find this one:

_{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}

Notice the underscore at the beginning, if there are any others that start with an underscore they need to go as well.

Right click on it, and select delete.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out the program.

Reboot your computer and post a new HiJackThis log.

there were no other entris in the right pane that started with an underscore. only two other keys remain in that right pane now (after copying that address). one is default and the other is similar to the one i deleted but it does not start with an underscore. so i didnt even touch them :tazz:

It's gone, excellent :tazz:

there were no other entris in the right pane that started with an underscore. only two other keys remain in that right pane now (after copying that address). one is default and the other is similar to the one i deleted but it does not start with an underscore. so i didnt even touch them

The other ones are Safe, nice work :)

Go ahead and run SpySweeper in Safe Mode and post the resulting log.

Andy will be taking back over from here! Happy computing :)
