If this was a clean install and there is no data on the drive

Download and install Everest Home Edition

Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary

Look on right for storage / hard drive (usually directly under floppy)

Look at the manufacturer’s site for their hard drive utility, check it has a write zeros to drive option, use it full not quick version, which could take 8 hours

When this has run, XP will still want to format the drive, use the default full format for NTFS, though check it creating a RAW1 partition on C, if not, restart the PC and it should default to C

You will need another PC to get the hard drive utility and burn it to a CDR as an ISO image file so that it will boot this PC. If you are unable to find it, please post the make and model here before you download anything

Please set a system restore point before you install anything
