Hello, NOcount, and welcome to GTG . My name is EMCguy and I will try to help you with your problems.

We need more information about your computer and the software running on it.

There is a free utility that will give us information about your computer, and will tell us a lot about the processes that are running and how those processes startup. It will also give us information about possible malware (viruses, worms, adware, trojans) on your computer.

Lets have you download Hijack This, which you can download free from GTG Hijack This. The latest version is 1.99.1. Save HijackThis in its own folder (i.e. C:\HJT). DO NOT run it from within a zip manager (Winzip), as no backups will be saved.

When HijackThis is first opened, there will be a scan button on the left. Click the Scan button. After the scan (less than 1 minute), the Scan button will have a new title called - Save Log. Click the Save Log button to create a file named Hijackthis.log. A dialog box will pop up. Use it to select the location where you will save the HJT log.

Now, close the HijackThis program. When used to remove malware, HJT is a very powerful tool, and should be used only in the hands of an expert. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING!!!! 90 % of what Hijack This lists will be harmless or even essential.

Return to this Forum and reply to your original post. Open the HJT Log in Notepad. Highlight the entire contents. Copy and paste the contents of the HijackThis log into your post. With a little luck we can use HJT to help us figure out what is happening with your computer.

Were not going to use HJT to fix anything here in this forum. We might have you try some basic automated anti-malware tools. But, if HJT is needed to disinfect your machine, we'll send you to our HJT Log forum, where the experts can help you.

Best regards

EMCguy

Hi NoCount

Your log shows that your XP system is up to date, that it has some protection from malware, and that you have a lot of processes running, which may be your problem

Lets try this tool next.

Download and install SiSoftware Sandra from here

Run the program
Click on system summary
Click on copy to clipboard button at lower left of screen
Open notepad
Click on paste, and a text version of the system summary will appear
Save it to a convenient location
Copy and paste that log into the next reply

Also, we need to move and unzip your HJT.

Go into windows explorer
Go to the C: directory
Make a new folder and call it HJT, so that we have created the following C:\HJT
Now go to your zipped version of HJT, and unzip it into the new folder we created at C:\HJT
When you run HJT now, youll be running it from a permanent folder

Post your Sandra summary back here and we'll take a look

Best Regards,

EMCguy

Chances are you have Video Card Problem.....

if it works and then conks out after some time, it is possible
that the blower fan of the video card is not working.....

if you have a built in video ( chipset is on the mother board)
then it is possible that you have deffective memory stick, although
if such were the case, then you would just hear beeping sound and the
comp. would not boot at all.

hope this helps....
