About two months ago I was dragging and dropping files from one hard drive folder to an another. When I went to file in the new folder, the file was not accessable for reading, using or even name changing. Is this a virus I can do something about or....

were they on the same drive or different drives?

Try running a chkdsk /r

start > run
cmd
<enter>

chkdsk /r

say yes, reboot
