Hi,

I found the site when looking for a fix for the Cassava popups that keep inumdating me while surfing. I ran all the tests in the Hijack sticky and it didn't stop the popups. This is a small list of the popups that I get on a regluar basis.

Cassava
888 Casino
Product Opinons

Among many others. I had no problems with popups before I went to a website and installed an activeX control by accident . Since that time, it's been popup crazy. I've also tried google task bar, Yahoo Task bask, and an assortment of other "pop up blockers" but nothing has worked. Below is my Hijack Log. Thanks for any help.

Hi Matt and welcome sorry for the delay in response

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.


Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders

Please double-click on My Computer and locate the file " interceptor.dll". Right-click on it and choose "Properties", then click on the "Version" tab at the top. Click on "Comments", "Company", "File Version", and "Internal Name" and please post whatever the text in the box immediately to the right says for each.

So far no popups......yippeeeee

I looked for that file, and could not find it, I then used the search function and looked for anything with "interceptor" in it and found a few entries. (2) were from my hijack logs, (1) was the backup to my spysweeper log (registry backup), (3) inf files, (2) files for my logitech game pad. When I tried to open the registry entry in asked if I wanted to add those to my registry so I canceled out before I screwed something up. Any ideas?

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
Click Start | Run | type in cleanmgr | OK

Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.

Press OK to remove them.


Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here for XP
