Hi I feel my system is infected with Winfixer. Every time I start Internet Explorer I get some pop window with
Winfixer.....html something( A white screen with title Error detected). Also though I have selected default options for my Nortan Antivirus, at start up I get a message at start up that Anti virus is turned off.
I dont know whats going on ....
I followed all the steps 1 through 5 and ran all malicious removal tools on my machine. After installing ewido, every time I run IE, I get a warning that my machie is infected with "Spyware.Virtumonde" and file name is " C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccd.dll"

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Run the Free use Panda Active Scan

Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Download the Killbox version 2.0.0.473 .
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\__delete_on_reboot__mljjj.dll

Put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot"
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

I'm sure it's gone now.

I have installed and ran the program as per instructions. However Killbox did not prompt any messages or any thing. So after 5 minz or so I have manually closed the Pocket Killbox application, restarted my machine and ran ActiveScan again. It still found a infected file but in different location...
Here are the new results of ActiveScan

That's good. The C:\!KillBox\ folder is the backup folder for Killbox.

You can remove Killbox and delete that folder.

Yes!! I no longer get those out of blue pop ups any more... Thank you for you support and patience.
However I have one question... If I open some files(Just open only no installations)(.AVI, .PDF, .MOV, .doc) from my CD drive.. these files downloaded from net so may be infected with viruses, will my system be infected or is it safe to just open and read/view
Pl advise..

If you don't trust those file, have them scanned before you try to use them:

• Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  
• Copy and paste the file path into the "File to upload & scan" box on the top of the page.
  
• Click on the submit button
  
• A result for multiple AntiVirus scanners will be shown.

If the results make you doubt, you can consult us, or take the easy way and delete them.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

• Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

• Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.

    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
• Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

• Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & Hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

• Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
