Hi there. I've been trying to eliminate the winfixer popups for the last 2 weeks to no avail :) . After searching the net and trying a bunch of things, I found this forum and given what I've seen & read in the forum, you are very knowledgeable and I'm very hopeful!! :tazz: I've gone through the required steps (Cleanup, Ad-aware SE, CWShredder. Spybot S&D, etc.) but it didn't help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is the log file after redoing just the Hijack This part, deleting the lines referenced and rebooting. Keyboard is an emachines keyboard (model 9021)...not sure if it is multimedia but it has buttons for cut/copy/paste, sleep/calculator, play/pause/ff/rw/stop, vol up/down/mute, internet/email/search/back, fwd, and favorites in addition to the normal F keys, qwerty keyboard, numeric keys, arrow keys, etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

The HijackThis log looks clean.

Can you rerun the Panda and post me the report?

Download and install Registrar Lite.

Let's go search the Registry for MSEvents
Please be very carefull what you do. A corrupt Registry is a broken down machine.

Doubleclick the file you just downloaded.
An Installshield will appear. Follow the instructions.

Go to start - programs – Registrar Registry Manager - Registrar Registry Manager
Since it's the first time you open it, the program will finish the installation.
Don’t install the tweaks.

Press the magnifying glass
In the box 'text to search for' type
MSEvents
press 'enter'. The program will search the Registry looking for items.

When it's done searching you will see a window with rows.
Right click a row. Choose ‘jump to’ *
A second window (advanced registry search) will open
Press ctrl+C to copy the row.

Open notepad
Click the right mousebutton and choose 'paste'.

Go back to Registrar Lite and go to the first window with the search results.

Go to the next row
Repeat the steps from (*) untill all items are done.

Then close Registrar Lite.

In Notepad you can copy all lines and post them here in your answer.

I downloaded and installed Registrar Lite but accidentally installed the tweaks. :) I tried removing and reinstalling but it did not give me the option of not installing the tweaks.

I'm not sure if that made a difference but when I search the Registry for MSEvents, it does not find anything. :tazz:

Funny, can you rerun Panda to see what it says?
Never mind the tweaks, it won't kill your computer.

:tazz: Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Please install and run Ewido.
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Please post me the content of the Ewido report.
