Hello Coxor and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite a mixture of malware and Trojans that need to be eradicated including Bube and SpySheriff. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep, this could take quite a few sweeps.

Download:
CWShredder save it to the Desktop

Now please install CWShredder, and run it. Click Check For Update, then Fix and then OK followed by Next, let it fix everything it asks about

Download
cwsserviceemove.reg file save it to the Desktop

Download NoahDfear's smitRem.exe©. and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Unzip cwsserviceemove.reg file to your desktop. While in safe mode, double click on it and grant it permission to add the registry items

Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark or tick next to each of the following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\omkld.dll/sp.html#87649

Click Fix checked

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\omkld.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apiqf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mssr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\addbt32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysxe32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\addzn32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkjr.exe

Exit Windows Explorer

Open the smitRem.exe©. folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop and post in to me in your reply.
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan.

Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

Before you do that, please delete your temporary files.

Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start >My Computer)

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the bottom of the fly out window.

On the very first tab (General) you will see a button labelled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.

Make sure the following are checked:Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Next, go to Start>Run>type in %temp% hit Enter and delete the content of all the temp folders shown (only the content, not the folder).

Hello again Coxor

Your fresh HJT log neither confirms or denies the fate of SpySheriff. This could be due to many things, although I must admit disappointment with the result..

On this fix I want to run a straight “fix-as-much-as-possible” type of fix.

To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop:

Killbox by Option^Explicit
CCleaner

Now please openCWShredder, and run it. Click Check For Update, then Fix and then OK followed by Next, let it fix everything it asks about

You have signs of a nasty infection that is difficult to delete, Bube. Kaspersky online virus scanner can usually spot and delete it successfully. Please visit Kaspersky for an online scan.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\omkld.dll/sp.html#87649
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Please now reboot into safe mode. Here's how:

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap the F8 key. A menu should appear where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Unzip cwsserviceemove.reg file to your desktop. While in safe mode, double click on it and grant it permission to add the registry items.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please delete this folder (if present) using Windows Explorer:

C:\Program Files\SpySheriff\

Close Windows Explorer and Reboot normally

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.
  • Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
  • In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
  • Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\omkld.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkjr.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\1A.tmp.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\1B.tmp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mssr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\addbt32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysxe32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\addzn32.exe
C:\winstall.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "Yes" at the reboot now prompt.
If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, ensure you uncheck old prefetch data found under the system tab, then click Analyze> Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Also click Issues then Scan for issues – fix selected issues

Post back a fresh HijackThis log (from normal mode) and I will take another look.

Hello again Coxor

We have been made aware in the past 24 hours that Killbox has a glitch.

When you ran Ewido and it found the first infection, you must have clicked IGNORE and then told it to repeat this for all infections. Please go back to the instructions and run it again and when it finds the first infection, check REMOVE and the box saying repeat this for all infections.

Just post the Ewido report please.

How is it running? Are you still getting infection reports? If so, from what programme?

Hello again Coxor

We appear to have won at least part of the battle.

Can you find out a little more about the icon that tells you of an infection. For example, can you right click it and get options? It sound slike part of SpySheriff that should have disappeared along with the infection.

Also, post back a fresh HijackThis log (from normal mode) and also an Uninstall Log:

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

and I will take another look

and about the taskbar thing i cant really tell you much. You cant right click it and get options. when you put the cursor over it it says virus alert! and then there is this little popup coming out of it saying exactly this.

Your computer is infected!
Windows has detected spyware infection.

It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up to date antispyware for you. Click here to protect your computer from spyware. It flashes from a windows update icon to a red circle with a white x in the middle of it. sorry i cant be too much help but i cant figure out what it is.

Hello again

Well there is zilch in your HJT log and all of your progrmmes appear to be OK.

Two things spring to mind. 1 - do the Smitrem fix again (just that part), and 2, do a WinPfind scan.

Download NoahDfear's smitRem.exe©. and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode

Open the smitRem.exe©. folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Download:WinPFind

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder.

Restart normally and post the contents of WinPFind.txt

Hello again Coxor

I firmly believe in cutting down workload wherever possible, so if you haven't started on the previous instruction, try this forst.. The rogue file for your problem has been identified.

Download
Killbox by Option^Explicit

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.
  • Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
  • In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
  • Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
C:\Windows\system32\svchosts.dll
  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "Yes" at the reboot now prompt.
If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Did that do the trick??
