I've been having poor computer performance lately while playing computer games, and figured it might be due to a virus in the works. I should note that I've been a bad boy and not using any anti-virus for a while now...which I'm now regretting bigtime. I am very big into bit torrents, and have tried a few of the free and purchased anti-virus softwares, and I've never been able to find one which doesn't lock up my bit torrent client. Sooo, that brings me to my present state. I just removed an lsass.exe problem, which ewido suite detected, but I notice a remnant of it in my HJT log for one. (its towards the bottom of the log, and by checking it and Fixing checked, it does not go away)

I studied all of the processes in my task manager and looked them up, and the ones I'm wondering about now are the rundll32.exe and winlogon.exe which appear in the HJT as well. Should these be present?

I also see a strange dll, the wvuts.dll, which I've been unable to "fix checked" in HJT.

I'm looking into the following things in my HJT log, which I made bold, my question to you guys (any help is appreciated) is, am I missing anything key here? Could these things explain my computer's poor performance lately with games? (I've tried defragging, and no, I don't run bit torrent or any emule/downloading clients while playing games). The game specifically is world of warcraft, which sometimes runs beautifully, but within a given session, may turn to crap and play terribly.

Any help much appreciated, sorry for the rather meandering post. Thank you guys!

I was able to clear up the wvuts.dll ones using Vundo Fix, but while in safe mode, I was unable to get rid of the

O23 - Service: Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (lsass) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe (file missing)

with the Fix Checked function.

Is this a threat? If not, how do I remove it for a clean log?

Thanks for the help!

Just as a matter of cleaning up you log.

Click Start -> Run -> (type) services.msc

Scroll down and find the service called Local Security Authority Subsystem Service When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button(if available), then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Run Hijackthis and click on Open the Misc Tools section -> Delete an NT Service
Copy and paste this into the text box and click OK.

lsass

That should do it. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
