I have a computer with the windows xp operating system. On startup I'm getting an invalid partition error and that's it. No more anything. There are no windows disks for this computer because it was already installed when it was bought. If anyone has any thoughts on how I might fix it I would greatly appreciate it, this is driving me nuts!

Thanks

Well, first things first, tell us what kind of computer you have, make and model. Do you happen to know what brand of hard drive is in it? The reason I ask is, you can download diagnostic software to a floppy drive from the hard drive maker's site and run the diagnostics on your machine to find the condition of the drive. That would be my first suggestion.

Go to this page at the HP/Compaq website and see if you can't find more specific information about your computer, because there were many variations of the Presario 5000. You may be able to find what kind of hard drive was installed, or at least supply us with the link to your specific model.

How to find your model number

Good luck.
