Poor performance

Hello, I have a dell isnpiron 8600 with Windows XP home installed on it. I just reinstalled windows, and updated it with sp2.

Whenever I run any video games it will run fine for a few minutes then it will run horribly slow. If I check task manager the process "system" is hogging all the CPU resources.
