So, my dad has a Hi8Sony video camera which has an S-port, and he has an S cable. Is it possible to edit videos from that format on my computer . . without having to buy a Digital 8 camcorder? (PC World- "Sony offers Digital 8 camcorders that allow you to use your old 8mm [and Hi8] analog cassettes while also offering a direct DV connection to your PC, so you can store DV footage on 8mm tape.")

it has been discussed here a little:

it is possible, you need a analog capture card with s-video input, left and right sound input, best off getting a firewire one though. or you can get post production house/wedding videographer/etc to convert it to an avi file on dvd....
