yah i am getting this message on my internet conection, it has the exclamtion with the triangle next to my conection saying this. and what it does is slow my connection by a great deal
like i can still connect to the internet and use it, but i find the more programs that use the intenet i have open, the slower it gets, and its never exactly as fast as it used to be
i am not useing a router, and it wont let me repair the conection, it says it cant renew the ip adress, i dunno if this has somehting to do with the whole static ip dhcp or anyhitng, im not really a tech guy
i was just wondering if i could get some help resolving this issue

thanks

it probably does have something to do with the whole static ip dhcp thing....

how is your machine configured? with a static ip address or does it get the ip from DHCP from your modem?

Hey mattDwyer, Welcome to G2G :tazz:

Are you using CABLE or DSL?

When you say the IP address will not release, are you typing:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

from the command prompt?

Have you attempted to power your cable/dsl modem and the computer down, then powering the modem up waiting until you have SOLID lights. then turning on the pc again?

Let me know how this works for you.

I think i may have fixed it
im no longer getting the limited conectivity
i went o networks connection, then to the conection, then properties, then properties on the tcp/icp, then manually set the ip adress, subnet mask, dns etc..

and it is no longer showing it
would this have been a possible fix?

thanks

Some more Eyes have arrived :tazz: Hello mattDwyer

I need some basic info here before we start, as I could not find anything other than that your using Static PPOE for your IP configuration.

1) What operating System's do you have on the PC in question, Please include any Windows Updates, Hot Fixs, or Patches (Example... XP SP1 or 2)?

2) What is the Model and Manufacturer of the Modem you are using?

3) What is the Model and Manufacturer of the Router you are using, and are you using the Wireless or Wired Portion for your connectivity?

4) What is the Model and Manufacturer of the Network Adapter currently Installed and IN USE on your PC, and is it WIRED or WIRELESS?

5) If using Wireless, are you using the software that came with your wireless adapter to manage your connectivity to the router, or if using XP are you using the Wireless Zero Configuration (referred to as WZC)?

6) [Under your static IP address] What is your address range?

7) Does the same problem exist if you remove the router from the MIX, and direct connect to the ADSL Modem?

Please answer these questions Thoroughly, so we may better provide you with a solution to your Problem!!!!

Try this:
Network Connections
Click on the "General" tab, highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", and click Properties.

4. Click on the "Alternative Configuration" tab, select the "User configured" radio box.

5. Type 192.168.0.2 in the "IP Address" field.

6. Type 255.255.255.0 in the "Subnet mask" field.

First off, "force" the modem. Unplug it from the computer and the outlet (if there is a power cord), shut down the computer. Give it a few minutes, then turn the computer back on. At the Windows splash screen, plug the modem back in. This will make the modem renew its lease. If no change in performance, a call to your ISP is in order. They may be able to "reset" you and help you recover your internet speed. When the tech tells you to do what I just described, tell him you already did that, and it didn't work.
