I have used numerous spyware cleaners (as-aware, spybot, Spykiller) and tried to clean a mess of spyware and viruses. I believe I have everything cleaned, but I have lost my personal folders in outlook. I have tried running the scanpst.exe numerous times to no avail. Can anyone out there help me. I want to try to recover my e-mail and make sure my machine is clean.

Hi takin dvantage. Welcome to GTG. ;)

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide. Also see this post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. :tazz:

You have a number of randomonly named files on your system. We like to start with an online virus and trojan scan. Even though you have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot your PC.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
-> Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

-> Reboot your computer.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left.

Hideproc.B- non cleanable
Stilen- cannot access
istbar.gm- non cleanable
blockdrop.A- non cleanable
Agent.all_ non cleanable
HTML ADVER.A- non cleanable
BDI.A- Non cleanable

I also ran the moosoft and it told me it cleaned Stilen

Adaware finds no errors.

How is it running?

Reboot and post a new log.

Coachwife6,

Again, let me thank you for your help, but I don't think I am fixed yet. The machine runs better, but I am still in selective startup. Spybot keeps finding something called DSO Exploit. It cleans it, but it is there every time I run spybot. And, I still can't access my e-mail personal folders. Here is my new log.

Thanks again.

I'll look at your log a little later. Trying to take care of something else. Don't worry about DSO Exploit. I will send you a link later about that. But it's nothing to worry about. I promise.

What program are you running for e-mail? Outlook Express? Microsoft Outlook? If it's OE, go to view, layout and see if the folders are hidden.

Your log looks clean. We can run two more programs. Even though your 015s are gone, it's worth a shot. :tazz:

Download: http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from here (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

Download Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in here
http://www.lavasoftu...x2cleaner.shtml

How to use Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in

- Close Ad-Aware 6 and Ad-Watch (if running)
- Download the free VX2 Cleaner at http://updates.ls-se...lvx2cleaner.exe
- Install the VX2 Cleaner
- Start Ad-Aware 6
- Go to "Plug-ins"
- Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Plugin"
- If your computer isn't infected, click "Close".

If your computer is infected

- Select "Clean system"
- Reboot your computer
- Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
- Remove any VX2 objects detected
- Reboot your computer again
- Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. ;)
