RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, obtain and install the most current Windows Compatibility Update from the Critical Updates section of the following Microsoft Web site:

I downloaded the patch as advised, but today get the error mesage.
I cannot copy/cut or paste anything in Word, or Excel, or anywhere else. That includes copying anything from a website or url.
The error that appears just before the ability to copy/cut and paste is removed is ... "This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from this document to other documents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.
Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
