I get the following error while i try to run a program i created in vb on visual studio 2005.

"Error while trying to run project. Unable to start debugging.
The workstation service has not been started"

Im running 64 bit windows which I don't think should be the problem

Any ideas?

Follow the steps below:
Start -> Run.
Type: services.msc
Press <enter>
Double-click on Workstation service, set its Startup Type to Automatic. Click the Start button in the same window.

there is no workstation service in the list that comes up

Look like your Workstation service got deleted.

Download the attached zip file. Unzip its contents. Double click on the workstation.reg file, to merge it with the registry.
Reboot.
Follow steps in my previous post.

it is already set as automatic after adding it to the registry but when i click on it this comes up:

"Configuration manager: The specified Device instance Handle does not correspond to a present device"

then when i click start this comes up

"windows could not start the workstation on local computer. for more information review the system event log. if this is a non microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 2250"

now it says i have an error accessesing the registry, cannot import.

do i have to delete the first workstation you posted first?

Follow the steps below:
Start -> Run.
Type: regedit
Press <enter>

In the left-pane, Expand till: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum.
Now right-click on the Root subkey under Enum and choose Permissions.
In the Permissions dialog for the the Root key, click on the Everyone group; click the checkbox under Full Control and Allow.


Now try the second regfix again.

nothing happens when i right click and go to permissions.

my own application in vb, nothing specific. like a simple hello world program

vb just wont work.

it has also effected my nero and that will not work now either

The Workstation service is important service.
Are you running Windows XP with an admin account.
If not, login to an admin account and follow the steps in my previous post.

apologies, been away for a few days.

yes i am logged in as the administrator

i have no accounts set up. my computer that no one else uses

right clicking on root, press permissions and nothing comes up
