I own a Gateway comuter, and on the side of it is a volume wheel that can control the system volume.

Recently it has stopped working and along with it, the volume icon has left the toolbar.

I am running XP and I HAVE selected to have a volume icon in the taskbar, and it had been there the entire time I owned my computer until this recent problem

Does anyone have an idea of what is going on here?

Oh yeah... audio works perfectly with Windows Media Player, but won't play in Winamp or Firefox or Explorer. Pretty odd I think.

Thanks,

Rob

swingkid02...

What model number Gateway is this?

Have you installed any new hardware or software lately? Updated any drivers?

Gateway 4026 GZ

Haven't installed any new programs... but I did install a codec to play audio on a video file... an episode of House.

And now it seems my Outlook Express won't check my e-mail...

What is going on here????
