The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep malware from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.

This reply is coming from my office PC; I'll be online at home around 7pm this evening.

Although the latest HJT log is clean, there remains one condition that has yet to be addressed, which I described back in Post #20 as follows:

For the past 3 weeks or so, each time I start up or restart my wife's PC, the following advisory window appears, in which I click OK and the PC continues in its start up sequence and all appears normal:

Title Bar of Window: "HP AiO Device Objent Server"
Contents of Window: "Register Class Objects failed: hRes=0x80004015
The class is configured to run as a security ID different from the caller
Maximum retry attempts exceeded"

I use a Hewlett-Packard G95 All-in-One printer, scanner, copier, fax on the home LAN. I believe the pop up advisory window is from malware.

Do you have any ideas (or suggested remedies) about what might be causing this alert box to appear at each start up/restart?

Sgooter, that alert is not malware related, but is a notice of a md driver. I would suggest posting in our Windows Support Forum for help replacing the driver in question.
