1. 1. Download "Registry Search Tool" (RegSrch.vbs) from HERE

2. Start it and paste in p2pnetworking.

3. Wait for it to complete the search, click ok at the prompt.

4. Then when wordpad opens, copy the text as a reply into this thread.

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type "regedit" without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP. Export the file to your Desktop.

If a restore of the registry is required in case of emergency, just click on the exported regfile on your desktop, and answer YES to the question whether you want to merge this file with the registry. Wait until you get a message saying something like Merge Successfull.

2. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste everything in the codebox below into the new document, including the word REGEDIT4. Go up to "File Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files" and save it to your desktop as fixme.reg.

3. Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

4. Reboot your computer.

5. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review and please tell me whow things are running.

does anyone know where Winfixer comes from? this is my 3rd battle with Winfixer.. it goes away and some how returns. im not sure how deeply rooted it is but it seems to stay with me.

As for your question about Vundo, it is associated with Winfixer which can be picked up through downloads, clicking on advertising etc, etc. Your systenm is now clear of Vundo, even the registry as it probably was the last time you were infected. You will have to change your some of your surfing habits and stop visiting sites that are doubtful as to their advertising practices. Implement all the recommendations in the following Tony Klein article and you greatly lessen your chances of being reinfected.


Congratulations, your log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

Reconfigure Windows XP to hide hidden files:

• Click Start. Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
  
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
• Check the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
• Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

2. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE

• Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
• Left click on "System Restore Tab"
• Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
• Left click on "Apply"

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE

• Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
• Click on "Apply"
