g2i2r4 helped me get rid of Winfixer about a week ago. Everything was great! But, somehow it came back... I did everything said, but I'm guessing it came back because the one thing I forgot to do was "Disable and Enable System Restore" that's all I can really think of on how it came back.. :)

Thread where I was helped: http://www.geekstogo...sue-t77199.html

I would really appreciate some help on getting rid of it again! It's just so evil! :) :tazz:

Hello, Kaleido Katie.

Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident

Please print these instructions out or save them in notepad for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaby.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\ybadd.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {CE70731D-F28D-4D81-9D61-C8EE60378401} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaby.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddaby - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaby.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Hello, Kaleido Katie. :)

Please open Hijackthis, scan, and place a checkmark by the following entries:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {CE70731D-F28D-4D81-9D61-C8EE60378401} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaby.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddaby - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaby.dll (file missing)

Close all open windows/browsers and click Fix Checked.

Exit Hijackthis.

Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

Please show hidden files and folders.

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Then delete the following files:

F:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P Networking
F:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P Networking v123.cpl
F:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ON42J7XZ\LicenseDelivered_GammaToolbar[1].htm

Then reboot into normal mode.

How is your computer running now? :tazz:

I think it's running fine! :) No sign of Winfixer yet! :) Thank you so much!!

Do you think there's any reason why Winfixer would come back so fast after getting rid of it?
I hope I don't have to come back in a couple days and get rid of it again! Haha.. darn thing. :tazz:

You guys are so wonderful at explaining things simply! :woot:

Hello, Kaleido Katie.

Usually Winfixer is self inflicted, it's very likely you got it again from going to the same website, clicking on the same file, etc..

If you do manage to get it again, try to remember what you were doing right before you got it.

This is normally where I give you tips to help keep your computer secure and malware free, but my prevention speech is pretty much the same as g2i2r4 has.

Let me know if I can mark this thread as resolved. :tazz:

Ok, thank you! I'll try to keep a close watch on what I do, in case I get it again. :)

You can mark this as resolved! Many thanks again! :tazz:
