Ok, I just bought COD2 today.

I run a Dell XPS Gen 2 M170 laptop with a Geforce 7800/256MB RAM.

COD2 will do nothing but crash and give me a "Directx unrecoverable error" no matter what I do.

I've scaled back video and audio to nothing and this still happens.

Given that this laptop runs BF2, HL2 and Fear at 1600x1200 without even slowing down, I find it hard to believe COD2 would be such a piece of crap.

I don't suppose anyone has been able to get past the Directx error?

ok guys, I split this into its own topic, as it should have been from the begining.
Huge thread over at iwnation regarding this.

I have some suggestions:
first here is an excellent tweaking guide: http://www.tweakguides.com/COD2_1.html
more for nvidia users: http://www.nvnews.ne...ead.php?t=59144

on the nvidia link on of my clan mates has a good breakdown of how to use the tool. it does work.
see this link

The only people who have managed to get around this issue have reformated thier system. Not the best answere but one that may be the only option. However being that the game has some issues with not keeping or taking settings (keeps reseting mpconfig to default) I would highly suggest using the autoexec configuration. Not only should this resolve config issues but should give a boost in performance. You will probably have to place the cvar for dx7 to be forced in the autoexec to get it to stay.
