I've had the Winfixer2005 problem for a few days now. We found your site yesterday and started following the advice given to other members. It seemed to put it into hibernation for many hours, but this morning, it popped up again. What is Winfixer2005? Is it harming my computer?

I have Norton 2006, AdAware, Cleanup and have ran them all as well as the Panda Scan. I have downloaded VundoFix and HiJack this, so I believe I have to tools to fix this, but don't know which sneaky little file it is hiding in. My log looks different than last night, too.

This is my Log:

Hi Taylormaid and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccb.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\bccdd.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B313D637-F405-4052-AC37-E2119AB3C8F8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccb.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddccb - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccb.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B313D637-F405-4052-AC37-E2119AB3C8F8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccb.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddccb - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccb.dll (file missing)

Lets be sure there are no leftovers.

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Post the results of the WinPFind scan in the next reply.

The WinPFind logs can be intimidating but like anything else, once you look at enough of them, you know whats out of place.

Make sure Windows is Showing Hidden Files

Do I need to delete
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfg.dll
by searching and deleting or by using HJT or vundofix?
Is that the last remnant of this thing?

What is Winfixer2005? How did it get in? The only thing I had downloaded was ITunes update.

Click Start-> My Computer-> Local Disk(C:)

Now double click the folder labeled Windows-> double click the folder labeled System32

Once the System32 folder is opened-> Search for jkhfg.dll-> Right Click and Select Delete.

Now go to the Recycle Bin and Empty it.

That takes care of that file.

To be honest,I havent a clue how you aquired the Vundo Infection.

That particular infection will try to lure you into using the WinFixer product.

Thats just the way this malware works.

Winfixer is crapware and ought to be shut down, why its not is beyond me. :)

Lets just hope this is your last run it with it! :tazz:

I looked through the folder and even did a computer-wide search and couldn't find that file. :tazz:

OK lets do this another way!

Download Pocket KillBox from here:
http://www.atribune....ads/KillBox.exe

Highlight the list below and press Ctrl+C to Copy

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfg.dll

Open Pocket Killbox-> Click File-> Click Paste from Clipboard

Place a tick by Delete on Reboot and Unregister .dll before Deleting-> Click the Red Circle to Delete

Click Yes to the Prompts that follow and let Killbox Reboot the PC

After that,if the file existed, when the computer restarts,it wont exist anymore.

If you want to be sure, when Killbox reboots the Computer,Restart in Safe Mode and Run WinPFind again.

Post the results from the fresh WinPFind Scan

Once completed with those steps, you should be good to go!

Go ahead and Renable System Restore and restart the PC,this will clear out all old nasty restore points and create a nice new fresh clean one for you to fall back on should you ever need it.

Read through those 3 little black links in my signature to get some extra ideas about how to avoid this in the future.

Make sure you keep your Windows Operating System up to date by visiting Windows Updates regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs.

If you ever need us again, you know how to find us! :tazz:

Post back if you need anything else.
